Here's to you Juan Valdez...

I've recently rediscovered coffee with a vengence. I know, I've been good for about a cup a day, say on the way to work or just watching the Saturday morning cartoons, but something has changed.

This is what happened... On a recent trip off the mainland I happened to drink a cup of straight, black, Maui Grown coffee. I've always liked black coffee, but for the most part I've been diluting it with Splenda and International Delight Irish Cream for the last few years. I guess you forget what a good, hot, steamy, BLACK cup'a jo tastes like.

It's to the point now where I'm making myself a couple of cups in the evening catching up on my favorite shows in addition to the 1 or 2 cups in the moring on the way to work.

It's also to the point where --  in addition to my black and silver Starbucks Barista Aroma Solo (which ONLY puts coffee into the trusty travel mug) -- I've gone out and purchased a black and silver 10-cup Mister Coffee, complete with burner temperature adjustment, regular or strong brewing options, and even a self cleaning mode. It's not the most expensive model out there, but it certainly makes a few great cups of coffee.

Thank god there's such a thing as toothpaste.

Now I just need to figure out how to get to sleep. (boooo... hissss......)

Phil "Yikes" Spector

I know he's known throughout the recording industry as the man who invented the "wall of sound" as heard in the Beatles infamous "Let it Be". Don't forget about his writing credits such as "You've Lost that Loving Feeling", "Da Do Ron Ron" and "Be my Baby."

I know he's now on trial for murdering Lana Clarkson in the foyer of his mansion by way of a bullet in the mouth back in 2003.

I know I used to have a few crazy haircuts in my day, not to mention I'm still a devoted Robert Smith fan, but Phil, come on....

Just another piercing.

There's definitely something about the feeling of being pierced. I had my left ear done twice back in high school (one idiotically of my own doing). FYI, I've had no other piercings until just the other day...

As much as I remember how bad that second, self-inflicted ear piercing felt, there's nothing quite like the feeling of a phillips head bit spinning in a cordless drill at 750 RPMs as it instantaniously punctures through your thumb, dead center on the thumbnail, exiting through your thumbprint, and back out again.

G-rated pictures are here, and here.

A PG-13 picture can be found here. (Notice the expert photography in capturing both the entrance and exit wounds).

All is well thanks to the inventions of iodine, Keflex, gauze sleeves, Band-aids, and of course Vicodin.

Such is life.
