Sicko

I know I'm way behind here, but we just finished watching Michael Moore's "Sicko." I already had an opinion about a universal health care system before popping in the DVD. It's just common sense there are good and bad points. That said, I learned quite a few things in this two hour documentary. Whichever side of the fence you think you fall on, it's a must see.

We have the greatest doctors in the world and it's too bad our health care in general is run by the insurance and drug companies. When a prescription inhaler costing $120 in the U.S. costs just $.05 (yes, American) in Cuba, or when a healthy middle aged woman is denied health insurance because a previous yeast infection is considered a "preexisting condition,"something is very VERY wrong.

Think we'll move to France the next chance we get...

Gimme a beer, a comfy couch, and a footstool...

You ever have one of those days where it seems like just about everyone around you seems to be loosing it but you?

On the other hand, maybe it's just me...

Politics as Usual

I understand politics is politics. An issue is an issue only if someone makes it an issue. We all have our opinions on what is relevent or not and I think those opinions are formed somewhere deep down inside where our core values reside.

We all like or dislike people for different reasons, and we all vote (if you don't you should...) for people for different reasons. Sometimes "liking" and "voting for" don't always have to mean the same thing.

The worst part about politics, for me, is how issues get spun depending on what position you're in. Obama's campaign has been and still is (seemingly) to take a higher road than his counterpart. He can afford to. He's ahead in the polls. McCain's campaign, on the other hand, with less than a month left, has (seemingly) resorted to the very "unMcCain-like" tactic of sleezy politics. I have to admit, I actually "liked" John McCain before this campaign. Even less when Rick Davis came aboard.

Why does Palin keep bringing up the Obama-Ayers-Wright issues in the very midst of a global financial crisis? eh....?

Here's quick tit-for-tat FYI:

Obama's William Ayers to McCain's U.S. Council for World Freedom

Obama's Reverand Wright to McCain's Reverand John Hagee

No matter which side you affiliate with, everyone has a skeleton or two tucked away somewhere. Whether it gets found, embellished or played-up, it seems, depends on if you're winning or losing.

Came across this little gem on youtube tonight. Recorded at The Palace in 1992. One of those performances which just carries you away.

The friends who where there with me know what I'm talking about.

Put your headphones on and turn it up LOUD. And don't forget to keep an ear on Porl Thomson's guitar solo...
