Question: What do you do when you don't have much time on your hands to work on new material? Answer: You mess with the old stuff. At least until such a time when you can manage to keep your eyes and ears open past 10 P.M. And without waking the rest of the house up... Back in the winter of '02/'03, in tiny apartment in Howell, MI, with not even the prospect of a social life, I hunkered down at my desk with a bunch of little recording gadgets and a really cheap guitar and managed to put some ideas down on tape. Well, not really tape anymore, more like converted into millions of 1's and 0's on a hard drive. The eventual title of the project was 'Departure,' relative to the fact Satin Jones wasn't really playing anymore and I had never really attempted anything like this on my own. Some of it's not so great, some of it I got lucky with. I had never been one of those drummers with the long goose-neck microphone hanging in front of my face. The cover, and inside sleeve with lyrics are posted here, and I plan on posting more of the songs as I get to them and find little ways to sharpen and tighten the tracks a bit. I may even rerecord a couple if I get the time. This first song posting is 'Etched.' The most I could do with this file was overdub some tom-toms and snare. The vocals are bit quiet. Update 8/16/09: added Leave. Overdubbed acoustic guitar. |
